How to Register

MRCP(UK) Part 2 Written Examination

  1. The Part 2 examination is held by the three Royal Colleges and held at various centres throughout the world.
  2. Part 2 (both written and PACES) must be completed within seven years of passing Part 1. Candidates must complete Part 2 within seven years of the date of their exempting qualification. If more than seven years have elapsed since passing Part 1, the Part 1 examination must be re-taken
  3. Part 2 written and PACES can be taken in any order once Part 1 has been passed
  4. Candidates who fail badly may be recommended to defer re-entry for one or more examinations.

How to enter the Part 2 Written Examination

  1. Applications for entry must be made on the appropriate forms or online, which, together with the examination calendar, are available from all three Royal Colleges of Physicians. Candidates wishing to sit the Part 2 Examination outside the UK should apply direct to the appropriate Centre (See Section 21).
  2. Candidates who are claiming exemption from MRCP(UK) Part 1 Examination and are making their first attempt at the Examination, must submit the required proof of qualification, and applications cannot be made online
  3. Applications will not be accepted earlier than one month after the previous examination.
  4. The application form, complete in every detail, and accompanied by the appropriate fee and any other documents required, must reach the College of entry before the published closing date. Applicants are advised to submit their applications at least two weeks before the closing date: allowances cannot be made for postal or other delays, and late or incomplete applications cannot be accepted.

There are a number of exam centres in the UK and candidates may sit the MRCP (UK) examination at any one of the centres listed below. However, candidates should apply early, as space is limited at each centre.

Overseas candidates

The MRCP Part 2 exam can be taken in a number of MRCP Part 2 exam centres overseas. However, registration to take the exam in centres is limited to doctors working in the same country as the exam centre.

MRCP Part 2 Syllabus - from December 2005

The Examination will be delivered over the course of two days: 1st day - two 3 hour papers (Paper 1 and Paper 2) and 2nd day - one 3 hour paper (Paper 3).

Each paper will contain approximately 90 questions.

Candidates should refer to www.mrcpuk.org or to the overseas organiser in the country in which they intend to apply for full information.

A proportion of the questions will be on adolescent medicine and medicine for the elderly.

How do I get my MRCP Part 2 Results?

Candidates are asked to allow five days for delivery within the UK and ten days for delivery outside the UK from the date after results are dispatched before contacting MRCP(UK) Central Office.  If you have selected to have your results published on the MRCP(UK) website then you will find these on the 'news' page.

Results are never given over phone or fax.
