Mr. Amyn Haji is a Specialist Registrar in General Surgery at Kings College Hospital . His clinical and research interests are in Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery and Advanced Colonoscopy He has a particular interest in Medical Education and has spent over five years teaching trainee surgeons and medical students. His involvement on the MRCS PasTest courses over the past 7 years has been welcomed by the students due to his enthusiasm and easy to follow lecturing style. He has a thorough understanding of the MRCS syllabus and aims to mirror the PasTest revision courses and online resource to the exams giving you the best opportunity for success in the forthcoming exams.
Lecturers
Prof. Christopher Fry is Professor of Physiology and Head of the Division of Clinical Medicine at the University of Surrey. He has a research interest in the cellular mechanisms that determine the electromechanical properties of cardiac and smooth muscle. In particular the aim of the work is to characterise the changes that occur to the cellular physiology of tissue from well-characterised disease states. The experimental work is paralleled by mathematical modelling studies to determine the relative importance of the different cellular functions in regulating overall cellular function.
Mr. Ash Subramanian, qualified from UMDS (Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals in 1997 and brings to PasTest a wealth of experience teaching career development at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. His main interests are communication skills (having served on the patient liaison group of the RCS England) and surgical teaching in general (BSS and ATLS instructor). During the 2007 process, he was extensively involved in advising those filling out application forms and has a great deal of experience in the interview process. At present he is a National Oncoplastic Fellow and in the final year of his SpR training
Dr. Ben Creagh-Brown is a senior trainee in respiratory and intensive care medicine currently undertaking lab-based research at the Royal Brompton Hospital into the mechanisms of the sepsis syndromes. He was a very relaxed undergraduate at the University of Southampton before coming to London to train in medicine, anaesthesia and intensive care medicine.
Miss Anneliese Lawn is a general surgical trainee at The Royal Surrey County Hospital, Guildford. She has an active interest in surgical training having been appointed as deanery training representative since 2008 and appears on the Royal College of Surgeons website ‘Career Stories’ page through her interest and participation in undergraduate teaching on the Opportunities in Surgery scheme. Having taken the new style MRCS herself and passing first time she aims to give first hand experience and tips on passing the OSCE.
Mr. Andrew O'Brien is an Orthopaedic SpR on the SE Thames rotation who has previously qualified as a dentist and also served in the Royal Air Force. He has just been appointed Deputy Chair of the BMA Junior Doctors Committee and is an Honorary Lecturer at Brighton Medical School where he teaches and is also involved in the undergraduate interview process. His interests are in medical education and effective communication.
Dr. Olaf Biedrzycki Graduated from UCL in 1999 did 2 years of surgery gaining MRCS part one, then switched to pathology training which was completed in Mach 2007. After a further 2-3 years training hopes to become a home office forensic pathologist.
