ST FACULTY BIOGRAPHIES

The Programme Director, Ash Subramanian, qualified from UMDS (Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals in 1997 and brings to PasTest a wealth of experience teaching career development at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. His main interests are communication skills (having served on the patient liaison group of the RCS England) and surgical teaching in general (BSS and ATLS instructor). During the 2007 process, he was extensively involved in advising those filling out application forms and has a great deal of experience in the interview process.

Andrew O'Brien is an Orthopaedic SpR on the SE Thames rotation who has previously qualified as a dentist and also served in the Royal Air Force. He has just been appointed Deputy Chair of the BMA Junior Doctors Committee and is an Honorary Lecturer at Brighton Medical School where he teaches and is also involved in the undergraduate interview process. His interests are in medical education and effective communication.

Kieran Walsh is a clinical editor at www.bmjlearning.com – the educational website of the BMJ Publishing Group. He worked as a clinician for a number of years before moving into the field of medical education. His interest in e-learning started in the 1990’s when he co-wrote an educational CD-ROM on wound care at the Royal London Hospital. Since then he has written and edited a range of learning materials for medical students and junior doctors. He is particularly interested in online learning, methods of assessment, interdisciplinary learning and teaching and learning communication skills.

Dibyesh Banerjee is a full-time Consultant Surgeon at St George's Hospital, London. He is a member of the Association of Breast Surgeons at the British Association of Surgical Oncology (BASO) and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine. He holds specialist registration with the GMC. His main sub-specialty interest is in Oncoplastic Breast Surgery, which is a rapidly developing surgical subspecialty, combining the best principles of cancer surgery with the best techniques of reconstruction. He has published many papers and given international presentations and guest lectures, and has contributed chapters in medical textbooks. His teaching experience is to both undergraduate and postgraduate students as well as being an examiner for MBBS at St Georges Hospital and lecturing on the Whipps Cross course for the surgical exit examination.

K Marcus Reddy MBBS BSc LLB FRCS(Eng) FRCS(Gen) is a Consultant General and Upper GI surgeon at St George's Hospital, London. He trained in London, Cambridge and Adelaide, Australia where he developed his interest in laparoscopic surgery. Mr Reddy teaches undergraduates and postgraduate trainees and is course organiser for the new Core Skills in Laparoscopic Surgery developed at the Royal College of Surgeons.

Jyoti Shah (BSc MRCS MD DHMSA MS FRCS(Urol)) is a urologist at St. George’s Hospital, London. She regularly teaches at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels for various organizations in the UK and abroad. Miss Shah has published over 60 articles, written 8 book chapters and is the author of the 3 highly popular ‘Day-2-Day’ urology series. She regularly reviews for 9 prestigious journals and frequently contributes to the National media.

Rakesh Popat graduated from Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospital in 1997 with a BSc in Immunology and following MRCP pursued a career in Haematology. He is currently researching into novel anti-cancer treatments and through this is recipient of a fellowship to visit Harvard University. He is involved in both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and has presented at national/ international meetings and patient information seminars.

John O’Neill qualified MBBS from Newcastle Hospital Medical School in 1995 and is currently an A&E SpR working in Portsmouth. A large amount of his training has been abroad particularly in Australia and New Zealand in the field of emergency care as well as working for the air retrieval service. His main area of research interest is pre-hospital care.

Sarah Nelson is the Managing Director of O2 Medical Ltd, a company she launched in 2002. During this time they have judged and written thousands of CV's and application forms for the medical sector and lectured extensively on this topic. She has a medical background and later held responsibility in all posts for the recruitment, training and development of doctors, both medical and surgical.

Dr Allyson Egan is a renal registrar at St. George’s Hospital, London. She has an honours degree in Chemistry from University College Dublin and following this graduated in Medicine from University of London at St George’s Hospital. She completed her postgraduate medical rotation at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital., graduated from the Royal College of Physicians, London in 2004 and currently teaches on Paces courses, organises OSCEs, lectures in renal medicine and interviews for senior house officer positions.
